BARBARA PELLA - AMA WEAR

Our cofounder Florence Moon at the Graduate Fashion Week 2024 in London with Barbara Pella- founder of AMA WEAR

What struck us when we first met Barbara Pella, founder of  AMA WEAR was her energy!  We loved her bubbly personality and her relentless determination to spread the word about her charity, AMA WEAR. She is incredibly inspiring.

AMA WEAR is a wonderful charity focused on fashion and life after a single mastectomy. It asks an important question: what do we wear after breast cancer surgery? Especially when we choose not to wear a prosthesis?

Barbara and AMA WEAR are tackling the ongoing issue of fashion being designed predominantly around one body shape, often leaving people with different bodies struggling to find clothes that fit and make them feel comfortable and confident.

AMA WEAR collaborates with international fashion designers to create sewing patterns specifically designed for an asymmetrical chest. These patterns provide the tools needed to make beautiful clothes that fit a one-breasted body after a single mastectomy.

The process is simple: you choose a design from the AMA WEAR website, download the pattern and instructions, and then sew the garment yourself. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities for dressing a unilateral body that doesn’t fit the conventional fashion template.

Like Eno Lingerie with their one-cup bras, AMA WEAR supports people on their post- mastectomy journey by offering another option  rather than to replicate what they once had - before breast surgery.

Both AMA WEAR and Eno Lingerie are about self-acceptance, confidence and moving forward- post breast cancer surgery.

We believe that having a mastectomy should not mean giving up on fashion, creativity or feeling good in what we wear.

There should be choices and those choices should celebrate the body we have now.
